Australia snaps losing streak

(Beijing, April 23) Australia ended 1 two-game losing streak with a 78-71 win over Korea this afternoon in the "Good Luck Beijing" CNPC 2008 Women's Basketball International Invitational Tournament.

Natalie Prter connected on 19 points to lead Australia in the win. Emma Randall scored 16 points and Erin Phillips added 14 with Rohanee Cox 13.

Australia outrebounded its rival 48-17 and was 12 out of 12 from the free throw line today without its starter Suzy Batkovic, who had been injured and pulled out in the 60-52 defeat to Cuba the day before.

Beon Yeon Ha poured in a game-high of 20 points for Korea, who lost two straight games with a 1W-3L record so far. Two other Koreans reached double figures: Jung Sun Min 14 points and Kim Kwe Ryong 11.

Australia opened the match with a 12-2 run and was up 29-22 after the first quarter.

Korea, led by Choi Youn Ah, recovered in the second quarter to tie the score at 41 with two minutes remaining in the period. Erin Phillips' three-pointer lifted Australia to a 46-41 into the locker-room.

The Aussies extended their lead to 64-58 after three quarters and rejected Korea's counterattack led by Choi Youn Ah in the final period to win 78-71.

Australia ended with 2W-2L after today's match.
