

(Beijing, April 23) Host China extended its unbeaten streak to four games after beating Cuba 66-58 this evening at the "Good Luck Beijing" CNPC 2008 Women's Basketball International Invitational Tournament.
Chen Xiaoli scored 17 points, including 3 three-pointers, and grabbed eight rebounds in the win. Miao Lijie gained 15 points with eight boards. Bian Lan and Chen Nan also reached double figures with 13 and 10 respectively for China, who hit all the sixteen free throws today.
Suchitel Avila Cazanas led Cuba with 17 points. Yulizeny Soria Baro notched 10 and Oyanaisy Gelis Gonzalez added 9 in the defeat for Cuba, who had 18 turnovers throughout the match.
Cuba opened the game with a 9-4 run and finished the first quarter 14-12. Miao Lijie came out strong in the second quarter and used her fast break to help China overcome 30-25 with three minutes left in the period. Chen Xiaoli hit a three with 1:30 remaining and China led 35-29 at half time.
China managed to lead by very close margins in the early second half. The increasing turnovers by the Cuban players sent China to a 50-41 advantage after the third quarter.
China restored a double-figure lead early in the fourth but Cuba came up then within three. The Chinese scored consecutive points with one minute to go to secure the 66-58 win.
After this match, the host team finished with 4 wins while Cuba ended with 2W-2L. China will take on USA in the last round robin game tomorrow.
