USA knocks off New Zealand 78-60

(Beijing, April 24) Sylvia Fowles scored 14 points and Katie Smith contributed 10 as USA routed New Zealand 78-60 last night at the "Good Luck Beijing" CNPC 2008 Women's Basketball International Invitational Tournament.

Lisa Leslie connected on 9 points and Taj Mcwilliams-Franklin added 8 in the win for four-time Olympic champions USA, who gained its third consecutive win and ended with 3W-1L so far.

Aneka Kerr notched a team-high of 17 points and seven rebounds. Angela Marino had 14 in the defeat for New Zealand, who lost all the four round robin matches.

The New Zealand hit only 15 out of 49 from the field while the FG percentage for USA was 45%.

The US players led 20-14 after the first quarter and consolidated their advantage to 48-22 at half time. Lisa Leslie erupted in the third quarter for 12 points to secure the victory for USA.

After the match, both USA and China have cruised into the final.
