
(Beijing, April 24) Host China and USA defeated their rivals respectively last night to cruise into the final of the "Good Luck Beijing" CNPC 2008 Women's Basketball International Invitational Tournament.
China 66, Cuba 58
Chen Xiaoli scored 17 points, including 3 three-pointers, and grabbed eight rebounds in the win. Miao Lijie gained 15 points with eight boards. Bian Lan and Chen Nan also reached double figures with 13 and 10 respectively for China, who hit all the sixteen free throws today.
Suchitel Avila Cazanas led Cuba with 17 points. Yulizeny Soria Baro notched 10 and Oyanaisy Gelis Gonzalez added 9 in the defeat for Cuba, who had 18 turnovers throughout the match.
After this match, the host team finished with 4 wins while Cuba ended with 2W-2L.
USA 78, New Zealand 60
Sylvia Fowles scored 14 points and Katie Smith contributed 10 as USA routed New Zealand 78-60.
Lisa Leslie connected on 9 points and Taj Mcwilliams-Franklin added 8 in the win for four-time Olympic champion USA, who gained its third consecutive win and ended with 3W-1L so far.
Aneka Kerr notched a team-high of 17 points and seven rebounds. Angela Marino had 14 in the defeat for New Zealand, who lost all the four round robin matches.
The New Zeland hit only 15 out of 49 from the field today while the FG percentage for USA was 45%.
Australia 78, Korea 71
In the match between Australia and Korea, the Aussies ended their two-game losing streak with a 78-71 win over Korea.
Natalie Prter connected on 19 points to lead Australia in the win. Emma Randall scored 16 points and Erin Phillips added 14 with Rohanee Cox 13.
Australia outrebounded its rival 48-17 and was 12 out of 12 from the free throw line today without its starter Suzy Batkovic, who had been injured and pulled out in the 60-52 defeat to Cuba the day before. After this match, Australia ended with 2W-2L.
Beon Yeon Ha poured in a game-high of 20 points for Korea, who lost two straight games with a 1W-3L record so far. Two other Koreans reached double figures: Jung Sun Min 14 points and Kim Kwe Ryong 11.
